Here's an economical wireless 11 Mbps solution for campus and last mile from Proxim

Proxim Tsunami MP.11If you've been looking for an economical wireless 11Mbps point-to-multipoint solution that's perfect for campus and last mile access - the Proxim Tsunami MP.11 can end your search.

Tsunami MP.11 consists of a Base Station Unit (5054-BSUR-US), your choice of directional or omni antenna and low cost Subscriber Modules (5054-SUR-US) - and can effectively compete against ADSL and Cable Modem offerings while doing away with recurring monthly access costs.

This easy to deploy system is also ideal for security and surveillance.  Digital cameras can simply be connected to the Tsunami MP.11 Subscriber Modules and transmit high resolution video back to the Base Station Unit in real time.

Other sorta cool applications for the MP.11 include:

  • Emergency First Responders
  • Campus Connectivity
  • Mobile Hot Spot
  • Security
  • Last Mile Access
  • Metro Area Networks

Starter Kits (5054-K00-US) are also available with a BSU; quantity of 10, SURs, a 60 degree directional antenna plus a jumper cable at a great price.

Harry, great Blog...

I have a few questions about this solution.... 1st, the bandwidth, as you add subscribers to a single base station are you dividing the bandwidth between them?

2nd Can you give me some details on this link, what frequency does it operate at, what are the distance limitations..... What modulation scheme does it use.... anything you can provide would be of value.... Thanks

Most wireless point-to-multipoint networks share the bandwidth. The AP unit transmits to all subscribers and then subscribers answer back when it their turn to transmit.

The distance depends on the frequency chosen and the antenna. For example the range on a 5054-R-LR on 5.725-5.850 GHz would be 5mi at 54 Mbps, 10mi at 36 Mbps, and 20mi at 6 Mbps. This is base station with a 16 dBi gain and 23 dBi client antenna, and fade margin of 99.995 in ideal conditions. As with all wireless the actual performance depends on your location and it's properties.

The MP.11 units available frequencies for FCC models are 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, 5.3 GHz, 5.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz unlicensed frequency bands and the 4.9 GHz licensed frequency band for public safety

RF modulation OFDM

BPSK 6 and 9 Mbps
QPSK 12 and 18 Mbps
16 QAM 24 and 36 Mbps
64 QAM 48 and 54 Mbps
