Listen, as a NetLink Account Manager for several years now, I know that our customers love to purchase ADTRAN switches anyway...but let's put the price point, feature set and stellar customer service aside, and let's just look at one of the many reasons customers continue to purchase NetVanta Switches.
CABLE DIAGNOSTICS.
The main reason for creating this post is to make sure you're aware of the cable diagnostics tool that is available in the following ADTRAN NetVanta Switch Models: 1224, 1238, 1335, 1534, 1538 plus all of their PoE counterparts.
I realize these switches have been on the market for some time now, but I honestly had overlooked the fact tht they include the ability to find cable plant problems - like an open - or a short in a twisted pair. How could I not share my new found knowledge with our customers!
To weight the value of this feature alone, I took a look at some low end and high end cable diagnostic tools, and this is what I came up with.
- There are low end devices that cost fewer than $50 bucks that can give you a simple good or bad rating on a cable.
- There are middle of the road devices that range around $1000 that can give you readings like distance and other tools that can help you locate the target problem on one cable at a time.
- Finally, there are devices that can cost upwards of $5000 that you can plug in and discover your network, and then they give you a diagram that can help pinpoint problems.
So, I leave you with this...you walk into the data closet to find your (or your customer's) problem - do you go through potentially hundreds of cables one by one...did you set aside $5000 for a rainy day - OR do you have ADTRAN NetVanta Switches with cable diagnostics?
